Training on nursery establishment and management

Held last July 17, 2025, the municipal agriculture office if malita successfully conducted a training on Nursery Establishment and Management a vital step in strengthening our community knowledge in crop propagation and sustainable agriculture. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our guest speaker Ms. Merly S. Salaver , senior science research specialist
from the DA-Research Division , Manambulan, Davao city, for generously sharing her expertise and insights, her guidance, along with the presence of her team, has greatly contributed to the success of the activity and the growth of our local farmers and agricultural workers.

Rapid Banana Detailed Implementation

The Municipal Agriculturist Office participated in the Rapid Banana Detailed Implementation Plan (DIP) meeting held on July 15, 2025, at the DTI-DOPMO Conference Room in Felis, Malita, Davao Occidental. The activity aimed to enhance the productivity and sustainability of banana farming in Malita by aligning plans and interventions under the Banana Industry Development Program.
The meeting brought together stakeholders from various government agencies and local implementers to identify priority areas, address production challenges, and develop a unified framework to boost local banana farmers’ income and market access. This engagement is part of our continued commitment to strengthening high-value crop development and supporting our farmers through strategic planning and inter-agency collaboration.

Supporting Growth: Bamboo Trellis & Garden Soil Hauling Initiative

The Municipal Agriculturist Office on July 16, 2025, conducted a field activity in Malita, Davao Occidental, focused on looking for bamboo poles to be used as trellis materials and hauling garden soil for agricultural use.
This activity supports our ongoing efforts to enhance vegetable production through proper nursery setup and the use of sustainable, locally sourced materials. These improvements aim to boost plant growth, support climbing crops, and promote soil health across our demo farms and community gardens.

Strengthening Local Fisheries through Boat Registration

In line with its commitment to sustainable and responsible fisheries, the Fishery Section of the Municipal Agriculturist Office conducted a boat registration activity in Barangay Tubalan on July 30, 2025. Carried out in collaboration with the Barangay Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (BFARMC), the initiative aimed to formally document local fishing vessels, ensuring that fisherfolk are recognized, supported, and included in future development programs.
A total of nine (9) fishing boats were officially registered and measured an important step toward strengthening coastal resource management and improving access to government services, technical assistance, and livelihood support.
This activity reflects the municipality’s continued efforts to promote organized, inclusive, and resilient coastal communities.

Strenghtening Partnerships for Agricultural Progress

On July 28, 2025, the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist participated a coordination meeting with key representatives from the Department of Agriculture Regional Office XI (DA-ROXI) and the Fiber Industry Development Authority (FIDA) at the Municipal Hall of Malita. The engagement included a courtesy call to Hon. Mayor Benjamin P. Bautista, Jr., and focused on aligning agricultural programs to better serve the local farming and fishing communities.
This collaborative meeting aimed to enhance inter-agency coordination, identify priority interventions, and reinforce support for ongoing and future agricultural initiatives in the municipality.
The activity underscores Malita's continued commitment to strengthening institutional partnerships in pursuit of inclusive and sustainable agricultural growth.

Vegetable Seedling Distribution Support

The Office of the Municipal Agriculturist expresses its sincere appreciation to the Provincial Agriculture Office, led by Ma’am Nally Bangoy, for the valuable provision of vegetable seeds in support of local food production initiatives. A total of 45 packs of PINAKBest vegetable seedlings and 50 packs of upland kangkong were turned over to benefit farmers and home gardeners across Malita.
This initiative contributes to strengthening household-level food security, promoting sustainable agriculture, and encouraging community-based gardening efforts. The support reflects a shared commitment to building a more food-secure, healthy, and resilient Malita.

Kernel of Growth: Lakitilima Corn Cluster Moves Forward

On July 29, 2025, the Lakitilima Corn Cluster Meeting was held in Barangay Lagumit, gathering the Lakitilima Cluster Officers along with the Provincial and Municipal Corn Coordinators.
The meeting provided an opportunity to revisit development objectives, strengthen
coordination among stakeholders, and align strategies for enhancing corn production efforts within the cluster.

Site Assessment for Coffee Production in Barangay Kilalag

On August 12, 2025, the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist conducted a site assessment in Barangay Kilalag to evaluate areas suitable for coffee production. The activity aimed to identify optimal locations, assess environmental conditions, and gather baseline data to guide future planting and development plans.
This initiative forms part of the municipality’s efforts to promote high-value crop production, support farmer livelihoods, and strengthen sustainable agricultural practices in upland communities.

IEC Dissemination on African Swine Fever Prevention

On August 13, 2025, the Farmers Information and Technology Services (FITS) Section of the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist carried out the distribution of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials across all barangays in Malita, Davao Occidental. This initiative aims to raise public awareness and strengthen preventive measures against African Swine Fever (ASF).
By providing practical guidelines and science-based information, the program seeks to safeguard the local hog industry, protect farmer livelihoods, and maintain the safety of the community’s food supply.

FITS in Action: Strengthening Partnership for Agriculture

Nurturing Sustainability: Crops Section Daily Progress

The Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMA), through its Crops Section, continues to advance sustainable agriculture by maintaining daily nursery operations and eco-friendly practices.
On August 20, 2025, the team prepared banana peelings and waste vegetables as substrates for vermicomposting. This was followed on August 26, 2025, by the hauling of ipil-ipil leaves to further support the composting process.
These initiatives demonstrate the value of transforming organic waste into resources that enrich soil health and strengthen crop resilience.
The OMA extends its appreciation to the Crops Section for their dedication to promoting sustainable practices and contributing to a more productive agricultural future for Malita.

Turnover Program & Food Pack Distribution

On August 27, 2025, the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMA), in partnership with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR XI), facilitated the distribution of food packs to individuals affected by the Closed Season. The activity was held at the OMA, Malita, Davao Occidental.

This program underscores the government’s commitment to supporting farmers and fisherfolk during critical periods, recognizing their vital role as the backbone of food security.
By extending assistance, we ensure that their contributions to the community are acknowledged and sustained even in times of challenge.

RSBSA Caravan in Malita

On August 28, 2025, the Department of Agriculture – Region XI (DA-RXI), in partnership with the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMA) Malita, successfully conducted the RSBSA Caravan. Farmers from Brgy. Tingolo and Brgy. New Argao were profiled and served under the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA).

The activity reflects the continuing effort to properly document and recognize our farmers, ensuring their access to vital government programs and interventions that strengthen their role as key contributors to food security and sustainable agriculture.
The OMA extends its gratitude to DA-RXI RSBSA Focal Ma’am Jollibee Osmeña and staff for their dedicated service, to Municipal Mayor Benjamin P. Bautista, Jr. for his unwavering support, and to the Barangay Captains of Tingolo and New Argao for their cooperation.

Appreciation is also given to SB Member Estefanie Bautista-Dumama and Board Member Enteng Bautista for their consistent support in championing the welfare of farmers at the grassroots level.

Training on Good Agricultural Practices for Durian Farmers

On September 2, 2025, the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMA), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture – Research Division, successfully conducted a Training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for durian at the OMA, Malita, Davao Occidental.

The training aimed to equip local durian farmers with essential knowledge and skills in proper farm management, food safety, and sustainable production practices.
By strengthening capacity and promoting quality standards, the initiative contributes to improved productivity, better market opportunities, and the continued growth of Malita’s durian industry.
